MEDINA — Donald Kopchak was sentenced to time in prison on Monday for his involvement in an incident where he questioned a man’s citizenship status and detained him at a Hinckley bar when he was an off-duty police officer.
Assistant Prosecutor Scott Salisbury said the incident had a large impact on the victim, both physically and mentally, and the prosecutor’s office found a prison sentence to be appropriate.
“I’m not saying (Kopchak) sat there and denied doing anything. He didn’t,” Salisbury said. “Again, he thought he was justified in doing so. That belief was clearly wrong, and it was clearly found by the citizens of Medina County not to be tolerated.”…
