Heat wave increasing concerns for fireworks igniting fires

PENINSULA, Ohio (WJW) – As the prolonged heat wave continues leading up to a historic Independence Day weekend, so does the concern for wayward fireworks and backyard fires igniting dry brush and potentially starting wildfires.

In Peninsula, the Valley Fire District is paying as close attention to the elements as any department in the state.

Serving Peninsula, Boston Township and Boston Heights, the district is surrounded by the heavily wooded Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
