Akron Fire not pressing charges after historic statue damaged

AKRON, Ohio — An historic statue has been in the same spot, in front of an Akron fire station for nearly 150 years. After being damaged, this piece of history has been taken down, and the fire crew at Station 2 is not happy to see it go.

Akron Fire Department Lt. Mark Marcinkoski grew up seeing the “Boy and Girl Under Umbrella” fountain in East Akron.

“Every summer, you know, people driving by, smiling, you know, looking at it, taking pride in it, and everything,” said Marcinkoski. “So, it’s difficult not having it out there right now.”…
