According to a memorandum of understanding outlined in a press release from Stark Women’s Center, the two organizations reached an agreement earlier this year, with Akron Children’s expected to complete the purchase by February 2027. The practice, located at 5000 Higbee Ave. NW in Canton, employs six physicians and two nurse practitioners and manages roughly 35,000 outpatient visits each year.
Leaders from both sides described the move as an operational integration. In practical terms, that means the core services and where they are performed are not slated for big geographic shakeups, even as back-end systems and affiliations are reworked.
What patients will see
Both Akron Children’s and Stark Women’s Center have stressed that deliveries, gynecologic surgeries, and urogynecologic procedures will continue to take place at Aultman Hospital. Care teams are expected to coordinate closely around high-risk pregnancies as part of the transition.
Akron Children’s already runs Maternal-Fetal Medicine clinics and a Mother & Baby program that connect prenatal, NICU, and pediatric care in Canton, a setup hospital officials say should help ease the shift, according to Akron Children’s.
