ACCESS to host State of the Shelter Breakfast next month in Akron

AKRON, Ohio – ACCESS Shelter’s 20th State of the Shelter Breakfast is set for May 19 from 7-9 a.m. at the John S. Knight Center.

The nonprofit shelter serves as the county’s primary low-barrier emergency shelter for women and children. In 2025, ACCESS served 252 residents, including 139 children. Approximately 70 percent of the residents who were served were able to transition to permanent housing, which is more than double the national average, according to a shelter news release.

The event is a key fundraiser for the shelter. It also seeks to inspire donors, community leaders, advocates and volunteers as it highlights the shelter’s recent work to assist women and children experiencing homelessness in Summit County…
