Historic Union Pacific Big Boy locomotive No. 4014 to make multiple stops in Northeast Ohio as part of cross-country tour

CLEVELAND — A rare piece of railroading history — and for that matter American history — will be making several stops in Northeast Ohio over the coming months.

To celebrate the United State’s 250th anniversary, the Union Pacific’s iconic Big Boy locomotive No. 4014 is currently in the midst of a coast-to-coast tour across the continental United States. As part of an agreement between UP and Norfolk Southern, the steam engine will be allowed to venture off of her home rails and into the Midwest and Northeast — with a multiday trek across Greater Cleveland being part of the schedule.

4014 will depart eastbound from the UP steam shops in Cheyenne, Wyoming, on May 25 ahead of stops in Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. She’ll finally arrive in Ohio on June 6 for stops in Continental and Fostoria before journeying to Bellevue that evening, where she’ll be stored overnight before being fired up again in the morning…
