Millions of students across the country, including those at Kent State, are facing privacy concerns after a hacking group claimed to have stolen Canvas data.
Instructure, the parent company of the learning management system Canvas, announced service disruptions on April 30 before confirming a “cybersecurity incident perpetrated by a criminal threat actor” on May 1. Kent State IT Communications later sent out a mass email to confirm the incident on the evening of May 4.
“We are aware that Canvas, Kent State University’s learning management system, recently experienced a service disruption caused by technical issues with our service provider,” the message read. “Services have since resumed and are currently stable.
