Alliance-area news in brief for May 6

LOUISVILLE SCHOOLS – Louisville City Schools’ Board of Education plans a special meeting at 7 p.m. May 6 in Louisville High School’s library, 1201 S. Nickelplate St. Purpose of the meeting is for the board to recess into executive session to discuss the employment of employees and take action on personnel and hiring.

CHURCH CONCERT – Uniontown United Methodist Church, 13370 Cleveland Ave. NW in Lake Township, plans a concert at 4 p.m. May 17. The show will feature Matthew Ball, known on YouTube as “The Boogie Woogie Kid.” Ball has more than 5 million views on his YouTube videos. The show will feature music from the Great American Songbook, and favorites from Gershwin to the Beatles with a boogie-woogie twist. Concerts are free to attend, but a goodwill offering will be taken.

AULTMAN STUDENT VOLUNTEERS – Aultman Hospital seeks student volunteers for its summer program. Open to students ages 16 to 22, the program runs eight weeks from June 8 to July 31. Volunteers serve in non-clinical roles that support patients, families and staff. They will gain skills in professionalism, communication and reliability – skills useful in any future career. Participants must commit to volunteering for four hours per week on the same day each week. Applications for the summer student volunteer program are due by May 29. Fifteen positions are available.
