Stow Big Tree Contest returns after low 2025 turnout

STOW, Ohio — As city officials prepare for Stow’s annual Big Tree Contest, the Urban Forestry Commission is encouraging residents to take a closer look at the towering trees in their own yards and neighborhoods.

The contest, which offers gift cards of up to $100 for winning entries, is intended to spotlight some of the city’s largest trees while raising awareness about the environmental benefits mature trees provide.

“It literally is exactly what it says. It’s a big tree contest,” one commissioner said during a Monday meeting. “Take a picture and submit, and then you get a prize.”…
