Nearly 10 years after a career-threatening injury, Katie Izzo wins Delightful Run for Women

ALBANY —To watch Katie Izzo power her way through the cold and wind to a dominating victory in the 48th Delightful Run for Women on Saturday morning offered no clue that her running career was in jeopardy almost 10 years ago.

While a student at Cal Poly, Izzo broke the tibia and fibula in her right leg in November 2016 in the NCAA Cross-Country West Regional in Sacramento, Calif. She still has a titanium rod and two screws in the leg.

“I’ve come a long way since then,” Izzo, 29, said. “I had to learn to, like, walk again. I was limping for months. What’s cool is I came back from that stronger than I had ever been.”…
