Police said they have recently responded to several incidents of children congregating at the park but not actually using any of its facilities or fields as intended. One person has reportedly been arrested for disorderly conduct, and the individual has been banned from any city park or city-sponsored event for a year.

Now, in an effort to improve public safety, the park will close at 8:30 p.m. during Amsterdam Mohawks baseball games. The closure will be enforced by patrols from the Amsterdam Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and any person who does not exit the park when instructed will be subject to arrest, authorities said.

Additionally, the Amsterdam Mohawks will close entry to its baseball stadium at the same time that the park closes. A “no re-entry” policy will also go into effect for the stadium.
