One of Siena’s rivals will leave for another conference in 2027-28

Fairfield University, a league rivalof Siena University for the past 37 years, announced Friday it is leaving the Metro Conference to join the Coastal Athletic Association for the 2027-28 academic year.

The Stags are entering their final season in the Metro Conference, formerly known as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Fairfield is a charter member of the league that was founded in 1980 and began competition in 1981. Siena joined the conference in 1989.

“This decision is indicative of the upward trajectory of Fairfield University as an elite academic institution of national prominence and reflects our continued aspirations to achieve comprehensive competitive excellence in the modern Division I landscape,” Fairfield athletic director Paul Schlickmann said in a news release. “We are excited to write the next chapter in our University and Athletics history and look forward to being an optimal partner and steward of the CAA brand.”…
