ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A family-owned and -operated bookstore in Albany will soon be closing the doors of its storefront. Urban Aftermath Books, located at 295 Hamilton Street, said its final day will be July 4.

The book shop opened 11 years ago after owner Hassan Elminyawi decided to take the leap from online bookselling to opening a physical location. Since then, Urban Aftermath Books has housed shelves and stacks of used contemporary books, vintage editions of classic novels and other rare and unique volumes.
“I spent countless days hunting treasures, unpacking boxes, hanging art, spinning records, hosting conversations, and curating something far greater than a simple retail establishment,” Elminyawi said in a Facebook post about the upcoming closure. “Over time, this place became a refuge, a curiosity cabinet, a community living room, and for some of us, a second home.”
Now, the store is preparing to shut its doors after its building was sold to a developer. Elminyawi said the current space will soon be gutted then reconstructed.
