Inside L’Atelier Musical, the Hudson Valley studio helping artists shape their sound

Patrick Lo Re emigrated to America from Paris in 1995 with a degree in acoustics and a passion for, as he puts it, “the effect a space has on the texture of voice and sound.”

This led Lo Re to co-found One Soul Sound with an international crew of cohorts and establish studios in New York City. After 20-plus years of running recording studios in the city and designing studio and concert spaces nationwide and in France, Lo Re relocated to New Baltimore, around 25 minutes south of Albany. In 2021, Lo Re and One Soul opened L’Atelier Musical, a recording studio and intimate concert venue capable of hosting 35-40 people.

The L’Atelier team — Lo Re, along with Empire State Youth Orchestra Conductor and Artistic Director Etienne Abelin; Professor Julian Martin, piano faculty at Juilliard; the New England Conservatory and SUNY Schenectady School of Music — conceived L’Atelier as a space for young artists to have their own intimate, intensive residencies. During sessions that last three to seven days, musicians use the time to work with Lo Re and his team of world-class engineers to develop their ear, experiment with sounds and spaces and record a piece of work as both studio and live recordings…
