Barry Manilow’s first show in Albany since 1997 was also his last Monday night at MVP Arena. The legendary pop star brought his “Last Tour” to town and gave the 10,000 in attendance an enchanting evening of hits and his brand of razzle dazzle.
Given his age (83) and recent health issues (a lung cancer diagnosis that rescheduled his original Albany date), it’s fair game to wonder why Manilow would even bother with a farewell jaunt at this stage of his life and career. But a spoken word interlude during the evening’s fourth song — “This One’s For You” — subtly laid out the raison d’être.
