New York Toll Enforcement Crackdown Leads to 214 Seized Cars

Four targeted Thruway operations uncovered ghost plates, suspended registrations and nearly $103,000 in unpaid tolls and fees.

New York toll enforcement operations conducted during the first half of 2026 resulted in 1,155 traffic tickets and the seizure of 214 vehicles, state officials announced Wednesday.

The four operations targeted drivers using missing, altered, fraudulent or obstructed license plates on the New York State Thruway. Officials say these so-called “ghost plates” are sometimes used to avoid tolls, traffic cameras and law enforcement.
