Man sentenced to prison in crash that killed municipal worker

ALBANY — An intoxicated driver who caused a deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 787 last year is heading to prison.

Lewis Thomas, 44, was sentenced Tuesday to five to 15 years in state prison for his second-degree manslaughter conviction in the Oct. 12, 2025, crash near Exit 2 that killed 38-year-old Eric J. Hurley, a local municipal worker.

Thomas was twice the legal limit for driving while intoxicated when he drove south on the northbound side of the highway and crashed into Hurley’s car. Hurley died at the scene. State Police said Thomas showed signs of intoxication at the crash site and a blood test later showed blood-alcohol content was 0.16%, according to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office…
