ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany man has been sentenced for assaulting a man and attempting to smuggle narcotics into jail. 38-year-old Keith Hurst will serve time in state prison, Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced on Thursday.

Hurst was sentenced to four years determinate in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, along with a concurrent three to six years indeterminate sentence. His sentencing comes after he was convicted of assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and petit larceny.
On Sept. 27, 2025, at about 8 p.m., Hurst approached a 61-year-old man on Central Avenue and struck him in the head with a liquor bottle. Hurst then stole the man’s e-bike and fled the area.

On Sept. 28, 2025, during an admission intake process at Albany County Correctional Facility, Hurst had a plastic baggie on him that was later lab tested and determined to contain a mixture of heroin and fentanyl. He pleaded guilty to knowingly introducing dangerous contraband into prison in the first degree.
