CASTLETON-ON-HUDSON — Emergency orders for Castleton-on-Hudson residents to conserve and boil water could be lifted by Tuesday, according to Mayor Michael Slik.
The orders, which have been in place since Thursday night, were put in effect after Department of Public Works employees noticed water levels in the village’s water tower had dropped from 93 feet to 15 feet. They discovered the issue after a water main break was repaired in the village around 8 p.m. Thursday, Slik said.
The water main break occurred as firefighters were extinguishing a garbage truck fire near the village’s Castle Ridge area around 11 a.m. Thursday. It is unclear if the response to the blaze caused the break, but the mayor said it contributed to the water tower’s depletion…
