ALBANY — Darrell Bossett is hooked to an oxygen tank, takes 19 different medications, requires dialysis, and suffers from several potentially fatal health issues, including stage 4 chronic kidney disease and chronic heart failure.
The 70-year-old relies on a wheelchair and walker to get around the medical unit of Mohawk Correctional Facility in Oneida County, where he’s incarcerated after spending the last 44 years in prison for the 1980 murder of a Queens police officer and the earlier murder of a man who was killed in retaliation for another shooting incident.
Bossett’s brother was also implicated in the murder cases, and convicted of a separate crime of throwing a hand grenade that did not detonate at police officers who were searching for the pair in connection with the shooting of the police officer.
