ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) —You may remember last year’s Operation Summer Heat, also known as Operation Tidal Wave. This operation resulted in the largest gun seizure in the history of the Northern District of New York. This summer, law enforcement agencies got together again for Operation Tidal Wave 2.0 in hopes of finding the same success. On Tuesday, at the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, there was an announcement of what investigators uncovered within Operation Tidal Wave 2.0.

Operation Tidal Wave 2.0 brought together FBI, state and local law enforcement partners with one unified mission: combating violent crime and making our communities safer in the Capital Region. According to officials at the announcement, crime has dropped significantly in Albany County since last year.
“In 2025, the national violent crime rate dropped by 9.3% compared to 2020, for the largest year-to-year decrease since FBI estimations began in 1936. For FBI Albany, we’re right there at approximately 8% decrease, and the preliminary ’26 numbers look even better,” said FBI Albany Special Agent in Charge Craig Tremaroli.
Agents recover 134 guns in Capital Region investigation
Just last week there were over 16 search warrants issued and according to Tremaroli, that resulted in an overwhelming amount of people being arrested.
“Of the 41 arrested, they had a total of 87 prior felony arrests and 40 federal convictions,” said Tremaroli…
