SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Six people have been displaced after a house fire in Schenectady on Thursday afternoon. The Schenectady Fire Department says it happened on Sixth Avenue at about 3:50 p.m.

When crews arrived, they found the residence’s back porch on fire with fire extending into the attic. Initial reports indicated that an occupant might still be inside on the second floor. But later, that individual was accounted for and confirmed to be outside the building. The first floor occupants evacuated before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters put out the fire in about 30 minutes. No firefighters or civilians were injured.

The six occupants displaced as a result of the fire are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The Schenectady County Unified Communications Center (UCC), Schenectady Police Department, Schenectady Codes Department, Niskayuna Fire District #1, Scotia Fire Department, National Grid and Mohawk Ambulance Service provided mutual aid assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Schenectady Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Unit. Stay with NEWS10 as more information becomes available…
