Albany County Flock case fuels push for ALPR guardrails

An Albany County sheriff’s investigator is accused of conducting more than 4,000 unauthorized searches using a Flock Safety license plate reader system, a case that is renewing debate over privacy, police oversight and proposed statewide rules for the technology.

Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple said Senior Investigator Laurie Moore allegedly used the system to track people she knew, including a former girlfriend.

“What happened here is a breach of that trust,” Apple said. “And for that, I’m truly sorry.”…
