Kratom, sometimes called “gas station heroin,” has been a growing focus in the Capital Region as more counties move to ban it and a newly released toxicology report in the Mechanicville family deaths showed four of the six family members had kratom in their systems when they died.
In Ballston Spa, Cari Scribner, whose son died from a kratom overdose in 2024, said she is encouraged by the momentum behind local bans but wants broader action.
“I miss my son every day. I miss him in the nice weather. He was a lifeguard. Loved to be in the pool and that doesn’t go away,” Scribner said…
