Albany County, city spar over $7K in school zone speeding fines

ALBANY — County employees have racked up over $7,000 in fines and fees associated with school zone speed cameras in the city of Albany.

Whether or not the county has paid is a matter of some dispute.

City data obtained by the Times Union in response to a Freedom of Information Law request shows 98 tickets were issued between January and September 2025. City Treasurer Darius Shahinfar, whose office handles speeding and parking tickets in the city, said he and lawyers from the county attorney’s office had been negotiating a settlement to resolve the matter for months last year, but no agreement was ever reached…
