Cohoes Housing Authority gets $128M for ‘very, very big’ public housing conversion

COHOES — A whopper government subsidy will help cover costs to fix up a large swath of public housing units slated to operate under a different model.

Approximately $128 million in federal funds passed down to the state will aid the rehabilitation of 238 decades-old apartments in the Cohoes Housing Authority system in coordination with developer MDG Development Owners LLC.

Project funding was announced by the state late last week. The overhaul at Dr. Jay McDonald Towers, Roulier Heights and Manor Sites — including roof upgrades, grounds work and window replacements — began on April 1 and is expected to be finished by 2028…
