Five years ago, New York legalized cannabis for recreational use. Since the first local dispensary opened in 2023, many more have cropped up across the Capital Region.
The roll out may have been bumpy compared to high-flying sibling states like Colorado (which legalized cannabis in 2012) and California (legalized in 2016), but local dispensaries are figuring out and making sure everyone feels welcomed, said Genevieve St. Hilaire, a budtender at Dark Horse Dispensary in Albany.
βThis may not be California, but we can smoke like it is,β she joked.
