Albany City Schools appoints new elementary school principal

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The City School District of Albany has appointed a new principal of Arbor Hill Elementary. Janet Escoto-La Voie was promoted to the position at a board of education meeting on Thursday.

According to the district, Escoto-La Voie has served as Arbor Hill’s assistant principal since 2017. She first joined the district in 2006, when she began as a Spanish teacher at the high school’s Abrookin Extended Day Program, and has since worked several other teaching and administrative positions.

Escoto-La Voie will replace former principal Rosalind Gaines-Harrell. The longtime leader was named the district’s first director of recruit, development and retention in March.

“Arbor Hill Elementary School is already a place of strength, commitment and heart,” Escoto-La Voie said. “My role as principal is to build on that success by working alongside our incredible faculty and staff as one team.”
