ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — Some brand new art has been revealed in downtown Albuquerque, with the “Fantastic Animals from Mexico: Alebrijes and Nahuales” exhibit. The eight sculptures each stand nearly 20 feet tall, and have been installed along Route 66 near the 8th Street roundabout.
The massive sculptures were inspired by Mexican magical realism, and pay tribute to Mexican artisans while celebrating Mexico’s cultural legacy. “It gives people a chance in this moment to appreciate the value that Mexican culture brings to us, and the impact that it can have in cross-cultural collaboration between our two countries,” said City of Albuquerque Public Art and Urban Enhancement Manager Michael Ogilvie.
Not only do these sculptures stand out during the day – they are also illuminated, meaning they will glow during the night time. The exhibit is only temporary, and will be in Albuquerque through July 17…
