ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – More than a week after the death of New Mexico music icon Al Hurricane Jr., local music lovers are still paying their tribute.

Albuquerque radio station KANW aired a tribute Friday evening dedicated to New Mexico music legend Al Hurricane Jr. “We wanted to really come up with something to air that we thought was fitting of his stature in New Mexico music since he’s been really a fixture in this industry for well over 50 years,” said KANW program director Kevin Otero. He created a two-hour special playing the singer’s greatest hits and offering a glimpse into his life and legacy.
His death came as a shock to many. “He was always a very sweet guy. I never forget that huge smile that he had on his face. And every time I talked to him, he had that smile on his face. So it was always nice to talk with Al,” said Otero…
