17-year-old charged with attempted murder in shooting at Old Town parking garage

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — A juvenile suspect has been arrested in connection to a shooting that took place at an Old Town parking garage in late March of this year. Issac Herrera, 17, is being charged with attempted murder. Herrera as well as his friend, Isaac Estrada, 20, were also charged in relation to several other shootings.

The shooting took place on March 29 after nearly 40 people, mostly teenagers, moved from a Rio Rancho house party to the parking garage at 2001 Mountain Rd., N.W. Just after 3 a.m., seven gunshots were fired, then a second round of 10 gunshots, and a third round of 11 gunshots. According to police, detectives determined that Herrera was one of the individuals firing, and that one of his rounds struck a female who was trying to run away. She sustained life-threatening injuries.

During the investigation, detectives linked three guns from that shooting to 11 other shootings around Albuquerque. Search warrants were issued on Thursday morning in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho.
