ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The International District is one step closer to deciding its next major project, with the help of public input. Fifteen ideas are currently on the list of potential projects.

Last month, the International District celebrated the grand opening of the People’s Market, a project decided by the community through an effort called participatory budgeting. “It’s a democratic process that allows residents of District 6 to weigh in and vote on where we spend our capital dollars, which is tax revenue right from their pockets,” said Nichole Rogers, Albuquerque city councilor for District 6.
Now, Councilor Rogers said they’re ready to start another project, this time with $1.7 million in funding. After running a survey asking for ideas, she said they received over 250 submissions. Rogers’ team has narrowed the suggestions down to 15 potential projects ranging from pollinator gardens, a skate park, resources for the homeless, art, and even a commercial kitchen…
