Land dispute leaves Bernalillo County residents without main road access

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A land dispute has left property owners without a main road in and out of their neighborhood. The Laguna Pueblo closed that road, saying it’s under their tribal jurisdiction. Bernalillo County is now trying to resolve the issue.

It’s a road on the outskirts of Bernalillo County with a long history. County Road 36, now known as Abrams Drive, used to be a route for residents of the Rio Puerco Estates to access the I-40 frontage road easily. But today, it’s blocked off.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, a sign was put up, and a gate was locked by the Pueblo of Laguna, warning drivers that if they try to drive through this gate, they are technically trespassing on Pueblo land…
