ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — From candied grapes to cotton candy burritos and more. This newly opened sweets shop isn’t just offering viral treats – but also a place for families to hang out in downtown Albuquerque.
“Where you plant is where you blossom or bloom from… I would like more families, more businesses to be here and feel more safe,” said Kayla Garduno, who owns Yum Yums 505 alongside her husband Freddy. “And that’s what our goal is, to just have more families down here.”
What started as an ice cream truck is now a brick-and-mortar shop right in the heart of downtown. Family-owned Yum Yums 505 held its grand opening ceremony on Friday, Aug. 7 at their new location on the corner of 7th and Copper. “Our customers, they wanted a permanent spot. Being mobile and kind of like an ice cream truck – it’s fast-paced,” said Garduno. “We wanted to give people a place to sit down.”
The menu looks a bit different than your typical sweets shop, and to Yum Yums, that’s part of the point. They feature as-seen-on-TikTok treats, like candied grapes – also known as Tanghulu. “We just really just wanted to give Albuquerque something different with the trendy treats that you see on TikTok. And we just basically started off with the candy grapes, the cotton candy burrito and the roll up bites,” said Garduno.
