RIO RANCHO, N.M. – A man is charged with disturbing the peace after Rio Rancho police said he tried stopping a Catholic Mass.
Lapel video from Rio Rancho police shows Michael Chmura arguing with officers after he was detained and taken outside of Saint Thomas Aquinas Church by members of the congregation on August 23.
According to witnesses, Chmura walked up onto the altar before the distribution of communion and began shouting his objections to the Catholic religion. Witnesses say Chmura was approaching the priest before members of the congregation intervened to remove him from the altar…
