ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque said it is taking precautions after a patient recently tested positive for the bacteria that causes Legionnaires’ Disease. The hospital said environmental testing found Legionella in a “very limited number of areas,” including two rooms. Staff is working to remediate those areas. No other cases have been reported. The hospital said they found no evidence that the issue came from its water supply, and the risk to patients, visitors, and staff is low.

According to the CDC, Legionnaires’ Disease is a serious type of pneumonia, but is treatable with antibiotics. Legionella can also cause Pontiac fever, causing fever, muscle aches, and headaches.
