ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico Hospital recently received national recognition from The Lown Institute and U.S. News & World Report for the quality care it provides to New Mexicans, the hospital announced Thursday.

The Lown Institute, a nonprofit healthcare think tank, recognized UNM Hospital in its Hospitals Index for 2026-2027, ranking it 24th out of 215 academic medical centers across the U.S.
The Lown Institute also ranked UNM Hospital third out of 20 New Mexico acute care facilities in the category of “Social Responsibility,” and it recognized UNM Hospital as a top-25 healthcare center in the nation – and first in New Mexico – in the “Equity” subcategory, which “reflects commitment to equity, inclusion and community health,” according to the institute’s website.
