ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Due to recent rainfall, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District is releasing water to irrigators in the Albuquerque area. Many farmers struggled this summer with hot, dry temperatures and little water. But for farmers planting fall crops who haven’t had backup water options, they say these deliveries could help them turn the season around.
“People struggled this summer big time, particularly those who did not have access to ground water,” Monte Vista Farm and Market Owner Mike Hamman said. “So they had pretty sparce harvest. Apple crops probably struggled quite a bit without deep irrigation.”
But with recent widespread rainfall, the MRGCD is contacting irrigators to temporarily resume deliveries to non-Pueblo properties in the middle valley. Specifically areas around Albuquerque, Socorro, and Valencia County have already received deliveries since Thursday evening…
