Flooding causes trash troubles in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Flooding on the only road into the Cerro Colorado Landfill left dozens of trash trucks waiting up to four hours and delayed trash pickup across Albuquerque.

The city said it prepared for flooding by filling more than 1,000 potholes, keeping sandbags on standby and getting equipment ready to drain floodwater.

The city said many residents did not get their trash picked up because the only road to the dumping area flooded. The city said the uphill dirt road also remained muddy after the rain, creating a backlog for trash trucks…
