Attorney: Man jailed after being shot, beaten

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man ended up in jail after a dispute last year, but before that, he was shot, and his attorneys said there’s a lot more to the story, and other people should be facing charges.

Jason Wiggins was shot on Christmas Eve , as seen on video provided to KRQE by the public defender’s office.

However, what led up to this incident is still a mystery.

The state said Wiggins should be held in jail on aggravated battery charges, but his lawyers said the Albuquerque Police Department’s (APD) documents and the state’s narrative tell different versions of what happened.

Both court documents said Wiggins showed up to the holiday party of his ex-wife’s family, who said he was acting erratically, then left and got into his car.

According to responding officers, two men pulled him out of the car and beat him up.

Reports indicate Wiggins returned to the home where family members claimed he attacked them with a bat and damaged four vehicles.
