Another school record falls as Oregon track and field has an impressive weekend

A school record was broken twice in the same race and the Oregon track and field team ended the weekend with seven wins at two different meets.

The Ducks had their distance crew at the Eagle Elite Invitational in Boston and their sprinters, jumpers and throwers at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Friday and Saturday, with standout performances at both meets.

Klaudia Kazimierska and Silan Ayyildiz got the weekend going with a thrilling battle in the women’s mile in Boston.

Kazimierska leaned hard at the line to finish in 4 minutes 30.33 seconds to 4:30.38 for Ayyildiz as the two Ducks finished in second and third place, respectively.

Kazimierska became Oregon’s record holder in the event, and Ayyildiz became the Ducks’ second-fastest performer as both ran faster than the previous school record of 4:31.03 set by Olympian Jessica Hull in 2019.

Ayyildiz’s time also improved her national record for Turkey.

Ayyildiz returned to the track Saturday and led a 1-2 finish in the 3,000 meters with Dalia Frias.
