Violence Continues to Plague Pat Hurley Park in Albuquerque

Late Friday night, tragedy struck once again at Pat Hurley Park in Albuquerque as a man fell victim to a fatal shooting, according to Albuquerque Police Department (APD) reports.

The incident has left residents like Iona Barela disheartened but sadly not surprised. “The sound of gunshots is pretty normal here,” said Barela, a long-time resident of the area. “My house has been hit twice.”

Police discovered the victim in the upper part of the park with gunshot wounds. This latest shooting adds to the park’s grim history of violence.

In 2015, 14-year-old Isaiah Albright lost his life in a drive-by shooting at the park, while two other teens sustained injuries. More recently, the park served as the origin point for a tragic road rage incident in 2022, resulting in the deaths of Alyssa Salazar and Alize Henson, both 14, in a fatal car crash.

Roger Wilson, the perpetrator in the road rage incident, had a documented history of car theft, underscoring ongoing security concerns in the neighborhood, as noted by Barela.
