Record holder for speed skiing is honored in proclaimed day by New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – He’s considered the fastest American on skis. On Friday, Ross Anderson got special recognition for that feat.

Ever since he could walk, New Mexican Ross Anderson has loved to ski. Throughout the years, he had dreams becoming a professional on the slopes. And with strong Native American roots Anderson wanted to become a role model for others. “I think people back in the day especially when I was a teenager struggled with my color but overcame and realized I could be that leader,” said Anderson.

Little did Anderson know that he would become the fastest skier in the western hemisphere, reaching speed of 154 miles per hour during an event in France. Twenty years later, no American has gone faster. “I didn’t realize it was going to break the record in 2006,” said Anderson…
