UNM student defies all odds after life-altering injury

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) –  After a devastating injury, doctors said Danielle Cummings would never be able to run again, but today, she beat all odds. “I still remember being in the emergency room after my injury when the doctors were like, ‘You’re never gonna run again,” said University of New Mexico medical student Danielle Cummings.

Determined to save her leg, Danielle Cummings lived with excruciating pain for over six years, undergoing several surgeries. When she entered her first year of medical school at UNM, se made the difficult decision to have her leg amputated. “Many people are like you’re gonna fail out of med school if you do this,” Cummings emphasized.

She charted her own course, putting in the time and work, “I know that this is what I need in order to live the life that I want to live,” said Cummings…
