Farmers market almost ready to open in the International District

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Nearly a year after breaking ground in Albuquerque’s International District, a new farmers market is getting ready to open near Gibson and San Mateo.

On Tuesday, construction crews were putting the finishing touches on the new farmers market. After multiple grocery store closures in this area, city leaders hope that the market will provide residents with an affordable food resource. “So this growers market allows us to get fresh foods directly to folks that are living over a mile to the nearest grocery store. So it’s going to help people like seniors, transit-dependent folks, that can just go quickly to get some fresh produce,” said Nichole Rogers, Albuquerque City Councilor, District 6.
