WASHINGTON — Students from across D.C., Maryland and Virginia will participate in the national spelling bee on Tuesday.
“I think I’m naturally talented. I’ve always been good at words and etymology, and finding out where they come from, and I don’t really study that hard, in my opinion, ” said 14-year-old, Ethan Atanga of Matthew Henson Middle School in Charles County, Maryland. He is the first student from his school to go to the Scripps National Spelling Bee since 2005.
