Prince George’s County, Maryland – A 68-year-old local man stands accused of a violent afternoon rampage that left residents shaken across multiple communities. Authorities say the spree began with gunfire and ended only when the suspect climbed into a vehicle whose manual transmission proved beyond his ability to operate. At least two people suffered injuries during the events of May 15, and the case has renewed questions about supervision of previously convicted offenders.
Sequence of the Alleged Attacks
The day began around 2:30 p.m. when Larry James Simpson is accused of opening fire on a 64-year-old man along Pierce Avenue in College Park. He then reportedly crashed one stolen vehicle before exiting and discharging his weapon again.
Simpson next allegedly targeted a woman with an assault-style rifle, stole her car, and drew the attention of an off-duty officer who gave chase. During that pursuit he is said to have fired at the officer as well…
