Montgomery County issues Heat Emergency Alert, adjusts fireworks events
Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C.’s large fireworks show hosted by Freedom 250 on Saturday is continuing with some changes to the original schedule. Gates for the show will open at 5 p.m. instead of 1 p.m. to reduce prolonged exposure to the heat. The fireworks are scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
Maryland
Poolesville in Montgomery County rescheduled its Fourth of July fireworks to July 5. Parking gates open at 5 p.m.
Takoma Park in Montgomery County canceled its 4th of July parade and street party during the heat. In an announcement, city officials said, “We feel that it would not be safe, or responsible, to ask our community to march or to gather in this heat.”…
