Get Out There: Exploring the Chesapeake Bay’s crab decks and tiki bars

There is nothing quite like the experience of digging into some seafood while sitting by the water. Now that summer is in full swing, it’s time to take part in one of our region’s favorite pastimes: eating blue crabs!

This week on Get Out There, our weekly segment about ways to explore the Washington region, WAMU host Tamika Smith spoke with Susan Elnicki Wade and Bill Wade. The couple wrote Crab Decks and Tiki Bars of the Chesapeake Bay. The book (in its fourth edition) is a guide to the crab joints around the Bay.

Bill said that his favorite weekend seafood adventure starts with heading east from the District, crossing the Bay Bridge, and going to Kent Island. More specifically, he recommended checking out Kent Narrows. That’s where you can find a number of places to enjoy delicious fresh crab.
