WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Ron Moten is a long-time community activist in Washington, D.C.
He has participated in marches and protests, and has appeared before the D.C. Council and political leaders from Capitol Hill. Moten says activism was a calling, with a few key moments that assured him that he was on the right path, including the Million-Man March and working with groups to help address violence in the region.
“Those experiences allowed me to use my leadership skills in a positive way,” said Moten, ” I also remember protesting in the streets and leading young people from DC Public Schools to join us protesting the government taking autonomy from [the] D.C. government at the time when Marion Barry was the mayor.”
